I just love it when I get to use my love of lettering in unique ways. Here’s a video that director Corbyn Tyson asked me to help out with. That’s me doing the writing. Corbyn shot, edited, and did the graphic design. Our great friend T.D. Oakes scored it. Enjoy. xo, linds

I love summer, I love fall, and I love the holidays. {Eating, getting dressed up, time with friends & family, and gifts are some of my most favorite things, so it’s only natural!} I’m still editing though my summer weddings {posts to come}, so I’m not quite ready to let go of summer and head on to holiday cheer. However, I did want to share some photos I took this past weekend at the Poska holiday party! {I featured the invitation design I created for the event in this post}. It truly was such a great time. Beautiful harp music, yummy passed treats including cider and mini panna cotta with cranberry compote… and beautiful things to look at. If one must embrace the cold weather upon us, this was certainly the way to do it! I got to help Louise with a few little touches around the store, including the sign out front and some doodles on the fun blackboards {the chalk holder is part of an old photo frame}. The green votive was at Poska {only $1!} The dinosaur… yea… D loves dinosaurs, and I try to incorporate little bit of [...] What a little gem did I find in Flywheel Letterpress! {Actually, the amazing Corbyn Tyson found it, and then was generous enough to share with me}. I’ve done several jobs with them, and let me tell you… wow. Just when you begin to wonder when the “service” part fell off of the word “customer,” Dan Barron and Flywheel Letterpress come along and completely restore your hope. When I received the invites they printed for me for Haylee & Anthony’s wedding {post to come}, here’s the note I received with the package:

Is there much more to say? Surely. From the prompt replies to the perfect, exact, cropping {I’m a bit of a stickler about this… I mean, if I spent the better half of an hour pushing pixels to get the margins and grids of my design juuuuust right, then I would prefer that whoever is doing me the service of cutting my jobs pay the same kind of attention to detail} … Flywheel is the way. to. go. Thanks, Dan! Keep up the great work. I’ll be back! Fun fact: Flywheel also printed a few runs of the world-famous Field Notes journals. .jpg "lindsayletters-hillaryinvite") Tip: When I use an actual script font instead of making my own, I always try to finish the ends of the important words to make it extra special. Meaning, for instance, in a pre-designed script typeface, a y doesn’t really have a swirly tail because it’s designed for another letter to be able to come after it. So, when it falls on the end of the word, I always try to draw a prettier end on it to look like how handwriting would look more naturally, instead of an abrupt ending. you might also enjoy:

I just spent an hour reading a ton of posts and looking at your gorgeous lettering. Thanks. Good morning! I’m off to visit my dear friend {and amazing photographer} Laura today! I’m so glad she’s finally moved to the Chicagoland area. We met through a friend and I am very thankful we did. She’s such an inspiring, creative, strong individual. You know the kind of friend that will tell you that you need to get your butt in gear? That’s Laura. But she does it in a really sweet, accenty-voice and over a cup of coffee, so it’s not so bad. Not that I’m speaking from the experience of needing to be told to get my butt in gear… Before I go, I’ll leave you with a few more little birdies. Seems that birds and eggs must be on my mind this week {honestly, per the usual}! You’re not tired of looking at pretty birds with pretty handwriting on them, are you? Good. Me neither. {p.s. Deanna K - Lindsay- I am a producer at Willow Creek church and really enjoyed the creative concept of the video with POTSC. Is that video available for purchase or download anywhere for church use? Thanks for the help.
